In a previous post Play Of The Day -Bula Sangoma -YoYoiwe 1985 the music of Belgian musician Chris Joris was showcased. Ex-Aksak Maboul man Chris adds acoustic percussion on the album “Noir et Blanc” by Zazou/Bikaye/CY1, recorded in Belgium and released by Crammed Discs in 1983.
It’s still an unsurpassed milestone in European/African fusion, a heady collision between traditional Central African vocals and uncompromising analog electronics. Resulting from a torrid encounter between Congolese singer Bony Bikaye, Algerian-born French composer Hector Zazou and mad scientists CY1. The collection of songs on ‘Noir Et Blanc’ belongs to my favourite 80’s treasured memories. Well recommended after all years.
